About CounterPick
A free, community-first educational tool for Overwatch 2 players
What Is CounterPick?
CounterPick is a free, browser-based decision-support tool designed to help Overwatch 2 players make smarter hero selections during the draft phase of a match. Whether you are new to the game or a seasoned competitor, CounterPick gives you instant access to counter-pick data, ban recommendations, perk guides, and map-specific strategy — all in one place.
The tool is built around the principle that better information leads to better decisions. By surfacing which heroes counter the enemy team composition, and why, CounterPick helps players understand the underlying mechanics of Overwatch 2 matchups rather than simply memorizing a tier list.
Our Mission
CounterPick exists to educate. We believe that understanding game mechanics — why a particular hero wins a matchup, what abilities interact with each other, and how map geometry affects hero viability — makes the Overwatch 2 experience more enjoyable for everyone. Our goal is to lower the learning curve for new players while providing a quick reference resource for experienced ones.
This is a community learning tool, not a ranking service or a commercial product. We do not sell hero recommendations, accept sponsorships that influence our data, or promote pay-to-win advice of any kind.
Who Built This?
CounterPick was built by a small group of Overwatch 2 enthusiasts who wanted a faster, cleaner alternative to reading through lengthy forum posts or watching hour-long videos just to figure out what hero to pick. The project is community-driven, with data, strategy notes, and perk recommendations sourced from competitive play, published patch notes, and community discussion.
How the Data Works
Our counter-pick data is based on a combination of hero ability interactions (hard mechanical counters), community-consensus matchup ratings, and patch-note analysis. We update our hero database after every significant Overwatch 2 balance patch. Our scoring system weights direct ability counters more heavily than soft counters, and adjusts recommendations based on the selected map mode (Escort, Control, Push, Hybrid, Flashpoint).
Perk recommendations are based on pick-rate data and community analysis of which perks synergize best with each hero's role in the current meta. These are suggestions, not rules — the best players adapt their choices to the specific situation.
